Donner on Action: But will it be good?
I'm trying to decide how I feel about the recent confirmation that Richard Donner will be writing Action Comics with Geoff Johns while Adam Kubert illustrates.
"Excited" isn't right. The news was leaked months ago and we've all gotten used to the idea by now.
I think maybe "mildly curious" is a good description. It's sort of cute that Donner and Johns are working on the title together since they have history together, but "cute" isn't compelling. And for all of Donner's history with Superman, I can't help but remember that it was under his watch that we got Superman spinning the world in reverse to turn back time, the Kiss of Amnesia, and the giant celophane "S"-shield that wraps up bad guys.
Actually, Kubert has me more excited about the book than Donner and Johns do. The writing team has me curious because I'm supposed to be curious. They make it an Event. It's just not a terribly exciting event for me. I'd feel the same way if DC hired Tim Burton to write Detective. Or Wes Craven to write Swamp Thing.
Okay. Actually... I'd really be into seeing Wes Craven write Swamp Thing.
