MYRIAD #1 from Approbation Comics Sells Strongly

An American anthology rebirth?

As a sign of maturing tastes and comic book readers venturing to try something different, the anthology format could be making a come back. One of the forbearers of this return of quality American anthologies is MYRIAD from small press publisher Approbation Comics. Approbation received news that MYRIAD #1 (Diamond item code MAR052592) has been selling well through Diamond and Approbation couldn’t be more excited.

“We’re very happy that all of the months of hard work and grass roots promotion are paying off,” publisher and writer Bart Thompson comments. “We’ve all put our hearts and souls into this series, and it’s great that people are taking notice from the ground floor. We’re currently working to fill the re-orders and we hope sales will continue in the following issues once more word of mouth takes off for the series.”

MYRIAD is a 48 paged, $2.99 retail priced, six issue mini series that has two full color covers done by industry professionals for each issue. The first issue showcases work by Al Rio and Jacob Elijah while subsequent issues include works by Roger Cruz, Jinky Cornado, Vatche Mavlin, Mike Lilly, Matt Haley, and Franchesco! Industry legend Bill Messner-Loebs even features a special three page comic within MYRIAD #3 (Diamond item code MAY052488).

Inside MYRIAD are five stories from creative teams that may be neophyte names now, but destined to be comic industry superstars. First, “ChiSai” (Bart Thompson & Steve Fox) is the tale of an 18-year-old mother who has one night to risk life and limb to take revenge on the man that ruined her life. “The Adventures of The Molly-Be-Damned” (Richard Nelson & Eli Ivory) sends a noble and his pirate crew to the pits of Hell to lift a curse cast upon them. In “Lineage” (Jay Jacobs & Chris Tsuda), Paranormal Enforcement Officer Janus investigates a mysterious alien terraformer. “Discount Stories” (John Ward & Steve Doty) tells the tales of the unique individuals who work in the commercial mega-store US-Mart. Last, “Frail” (Chris O’Bryant & Jason Hazel) is a cerebral horror story that illustrates how one terrifying event causes ripples of madness in the lives of many.

MYRIAD has already received coverage from respected industry news sources Newsarama.com, SilverBulletComics.com, Broken Frontier, and was even listed as one of Wizard magazine’s “Top 49 Things You Need to Know About Indie Comics in 2005.”

All issues of MYRIAD can be re-ordered or pre-ordered through Diamond Distributors including the just released MYRIAD #2 (item code APR052628) and the soon to be released MYRIAD #4 (item code JUN052762).
